Like Saint Anthony, the bright and brilliant daffodil, originated in Portugal and, in continuing similarity, rises and opens to the light from Heaven, being the symbol of inspiration! Beginning his sacred life, our Saint so devoted, intensely studied the Augustinian theology but it was in learning of the first Franciscan martyrs upon the return of their remains to Morocco, that, where most hearts might fall to fear, this heart was divinely inspired as he ran to the Franciscan Friary to request "Brother, I would gladly put on the habit of your Order if you would promise to send me as soon as possible to the land of the Saracens, that I may gain the crown of the holy martyrs." Even then, within the pull of the Augustinians, a new and enthusiastic Franciscan took the name of Anthony, looking only up to seek the light and moving onward toward Blessed Heaven.
